On Reversal of Geotropism in Asterina
نویسنده
چکیده
A certain level of strychninization induces in Asterina reversal of geotropism from the normally geonegative movement to a persistent downward creeping. The effect of an attached float producing upward pull is to induce upward creeping, under these conditions, whereas normally it leads to downward movement. This reversal cannot be regarded as due to a mere intensification of the sensory effect of tension. It must be understood as representing a true reversal of inhibition. The temporary reversal of geotropism following mechanical disturbances (in the absence of strychnine) is interpreted in the same way.

Prevention by polyhydroxysteroids and saponins of Asterina pectinifera of the desquamation of stratum corneum cells.
Two polyhydroxysteroids and three steroidal saponins (pectiniosides A, B and C) were isolated as bioactive substances from Asterina pectinifera. These compounds inhibited the release of guinea-pig skin stratum corneum cells by 48-67% (control, 0%) at 2 mg/ml. It is suggested that the bioactivity of these compounds is connected with the remedial and preventive effects of an aqueous extract of A....
متن کاملMethanolic Extract of Asterina pectinifera inhibits LPS-Induced Inflammatory Mediators in Murine Macrophage
This study aimed to elucidate anti-inflammatory activities from extracts of Asterina pectinifera on nitric oxide (NO) production, TNF-α and IL-6 release in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) -stimulated murine macrophage cell, RAW264.7. We prepared the methanolic extracts (60-MAP, 70-MAP, 80-MAP and 90-MAP) , aqueous extract (W-AP) and functional bioactive compound fraction (He-AP and EA-AP) from Asterin...
متن کاملRole of adenosine receptors and protein phosphatases in the reversal of pentylenetetrazol-induced potentiation phenomenon by theta pulse stimulation in the CA1 region of rat hippocampal slices
The effect of theta pulse stimulation (TPS) on pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced long-term potentiation of population spikes (PS) was studied in the hippocampal CA1 in vitro. A transient PTZ application produced a long-lasting enhancement of PS amplitude. A 3-min episode of TPS delivered at a higher intensity produced complete reversal of the PTZ potentiation when delivered during the last minute...
